Our partners in johannesburg manufacture these solar lights which include a stainless steel body, battery, led light, solar panel and solar stand. almost 65% of our assembly components are materials from South africa which helps create and sustain local jobs. these solar lights have 3 different light settings (low, medium and high) for energy efficiency and have enough power as 16 candles.
Ewewe Primary School is located in a remote electrically off-grid village, aproximately 50 minutes outside of durban, South Africa. having no access to electricity means resorting to the harmful toxins of kerosene and candles as their only light source-- if they can afford it. Having electricity means more than just lighting up a room, it becomes the foundation to a developing community.
Our goal is to create the building blocks to students' success in communities like ewewe. without the proper infastructure, it is difficult for students to prioritize education and capacity building. we are committed to ensure that our work in these communities is sustainable and lasting.
Solar for Life is proud to have supported the Bright night project with our partners, Little sun. We brought together some of South Africa's upcoming artists to showcase their work in the dark, with the only source of lighting being from solar lights. The 200 lights at the event were then used to support an off-grid school in Kwazulu-Natal, south africa with reliable lighting to replace kerosene. bringing together art and sustainable development to help make a difference.
Solar for Life is partnered with the United Nations Sustainable development solutions network youth team (SDSN-Youth) to support the goals and mandate of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
